SWIM CHECK, MONDAY, April 28th     In lieu of our regular Scout meeting, the troop will meet at the Salisbury YMCA on Jake Alexander Blvd. at 6:30 pm on Monday, April 28th to take a swimming test.  Each member should wear a Troop 448 T-shirt and swim trunks.  Bring a towel.  Your swimming ability will be checked to enable you to go canoeing at the Rowan District Spring Camporee on May 2-4, and to have your swim check completed before summer camp. 

 

ROWAN DISTRICT CAMPOREE    The troop will meet at the Scout building at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 2nd to pack for camporee.   Wear your full Class "A" uniform.  There will be a uniform inspection as a part of our camporee score.  We will leave at 4:48 pm to go to the Shrine Club on High Rock Lake which is located at the end of Long Ferry Road.  Patrols will be responsible for supper on Friday evening and breakfast Saturday and Sunday.  The other meals will be provided.  The main events of this camporee will be a fishing contest and a canoe race.  You should provide your own fishing equipment and bait.  The crappies are biting and we should do well.  We will return to the Scout building around 10:00 AM on Sunday.  If you have not signed up to go, you may do so at Scout meeting next Monday.  The registration fee for the camporee is $15.00

 

SOUTH YADKIN CANOE & KAYAK RACE   Our troop will participate in the 21st annual South Yadkin Canoe & Kayak Race on Saturday, May 10th.  The race will start at the 601 Highway Bridge on the South Yadkin River and finish at the Salisbury Pump Station approximately six miles.  We will meet at the Scout building at 8:00 am to go to the starting point.  The cost of the race entry is $20.00 and Race Entry Forms are available at the Scout building for all classes of canoeist.  Make checks payable to Mocksville Davie Parks & Recreation.  Each person will receive a T- shirt and trophies for the winners.   Get a buddy or your parent to canoe with you and win an award.   Details are available at Scout meeting.

 

BOWL-A-THON    The Coburn United Methodist Men has invited Troop 448 to join them in their Bowl-A-Thon on Sunday, May 18th at Woodleaf Lanes, 1811 West Jake Alexander Blvd.  To participate put together a four person team and call Jack Kepley 704 636 1820 or Mark Eagle 704 633 1530 by Tuesday, May 6th.   The cost is $8.00 per person for three games including bowling shoes.  The purpose of this Bowl-A-Thon is to raise money to support Scouting.  Get your family and friends to pledge a certain amount for each pin you knock down.  For instance, if you get a pledge of 5 cents a pin and you knock down 300 pins in three games, the person making the pledge would owe $15.00.  There will be awards for the teams collecting the most money. 

 

COMMITTEE MEETING    The regular monthly meeting of the Boy Scout Units 448 Committee will meet at the Jack Kepley Scout Building on Tuesday, May 6th.  Dennis Rogers and Wayne Sasser will serve supper at 6:30 pm.
